Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) e Emerald Fennell (Bela Vingança) fazem história no prêmio do Sindicato dos Direitores.
Foram anunciados nos dias 8 e 9 de março os indicados ao DGA Awards 2021 nas categorias dedicadas ao cinema e à televisão.
No cinema, destaque para as duas indicações femininas na categoria de melhor direção, para Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) e Emerald Fennell (Bela Vingança). Esta é a primeira vez na história da premiação em que duas mulheres são indicadas à categoria.
Antes disso, o DGA só havia indicado mulheres na categoria principal em outras nove oportunidades ao longo de mais de sete décadas de premiação. São elas Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Lina Wertmüller (Pasqualino Sete Belezas), Randa Haines (Filhos do Silêncio), Barbra Streisand (O Príncipe das Marés), Jane Campion (O Piano), Sofia Coppola (Encontros e Desencontros), Valerie Faris (Pequena Miss Sunshine) e Kathryn Bigelow (Guerra ao Terror, A Hora Mais Escura), sendo esta a única a ter vencido, por Guerra ao Terror.
Na TV, os destaques são as comédias Ted Lasso e Curb Your Enthusiasm, que conseguiram duas indicações cada.
